Our Musical Director
.... and the man who started Stockingtops in 2007 is Grenville Jones. He is the man behind more musical projects than you can shake a baton at! As well as being founder and conductor of Bath's famous Last Choir Standing Bath Male Choir, he leads the 90 voice mixed voice choir The Bath Chorus and heads up a project called Good Afternoon Choirs. Grenville was seen on national TV again in November of last year with Gareth Malone. Grenville was asked to lead a youth choir representing the BBC West of England region on Children in Need. A number of his singers (including some of the Stockingtops girls) appear in the Steven Spielberg film War Horse. G was asked to supply extras for filming that took place at Castle Combe, near Bath.
He has been seen on TV throughout the world because of the Golden-Oldies Charity he founded in 2008. "Goldies" as it has become known brings music to hundreds of elderly and isolated people. He is currently working on a 2 year EEU funded project which is looking at how music can reach out to elderly people across Europe.
With the fabulous Stockingtops, Grenville recognised that there was room for a singing group that would not be a choir, but instead would be a fun group of girls who combined good singing with dance and enjoyment - for the singers themselves and for audiences!
